Hi everyone! I’m so excited to introduce Nova North’s blog. I’ll use this platform to talk more about mental health symptoms, therapeutic modalities, self-care tips, and other resources to help along your mental health journey! I’m so glad you’re here!
A little more about me and my background as a therapist:
I graduated with my master’s in Counseling Psychology from St. Mary’s University in 2018 and became independently licensed as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in 2021. My therapeutic background is in DBT and sensorimotor techniques. I worked at a certified-DBT clinic my first five years as a therapist and learned so much through teaching in outpatient DBT groups, intensive outpatient programs, and trauma skills groups, along with seeing clients individually. From there, I also became trained in Sensorimotor therapy. Sensorimotor focuses on using somatic resourcing to help client’s learn to regulate their nervous systems and reintegrate mind-body connections. Watching clients learn to reconnect with their body, and listen to the wisdom their body holds, has been remarkable.
After experiencing pregnancy and postpartum myself, I grew a special place in my heart for working with this population. I expanded my practice through training and certification in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International. Perinatal mental health care, and overall support for the perinatal period, leaves so much to be desired for many families and it is a passion of mine to be an advocate and a resource during this time.
I will always love working with teens, young adults, and helping individuals find their own identities, create and assess values/priorities and see the growth that this period brings. Whether that be transitioning from high school to college, college to young adulthood, or young adulthood into relationships, career, and family planning – life gets messy and hard to navigate sometimes! I strive to help you understand yourself and give you tools to create a life that feels authentic and meaningful to you.
I went into private practice and created Nova North Therapy to be a nonjudgemental, compassionate, and supportive space for clients to learn ways to be more effective in their world – whatever that looks like for them at this moment. I encourage you to meet yourself where you’re at now, and promise I’ll be there with you. I can’t wait to share more information here and in session with you!
